About Karyukai Teahouse
The word Karyukai means “flower and willow world” and represents the world of the geisha. The Karyukai tea house and okiya were named after the “floating world” of the geisha and samurai from the Yoshiwara or “pleasure district” of the Edo periond in Japan.
The Karyukai Japanese Tea House was founded in August 2006. The tea house was designed to provide virtual entertainment based on the traditions of real life Japanese geisha culture. The geisha of Karyukai Tea House study for several years in order to perfect their art as virtual performers and entertainers in Second Life.
The goals of the Karyukai Tea House are to provide virtual entertainment that is both fun and educational, to study the traditions and history of Asian culture, and to provide a unique virtual experience that enriches the lives of others.
The Karyukai Japanese Tea House is located in the Gion Kobu Hanamachi geisha district within the AosagiGun “Blue Heron” Sim. The Gion Kobu Hanamachi geisha district has four tea houses: Karyuaki Tea House, Tea House Satoharu, Sunbuny Tiny Tea House, and a chashitsu. Kabuki and Noh plays are peformed in the Kaburenjo Theater. There is a geisha school and a library with Asian literature. Special parties are held within the community center. Outdoor parties are held in the tea garden pavillion.
